Phoenix was chosen by the National High School Mock Trial Committee to be the location of the 2011 Mock Trial Championship. The Foundation has sponsored the Arizona High School Mock Trial Program for the past 25 years. For the past 22 years, beginning in 1985, Arizona’s state champion team has represented Arizona at the National High School Mock Trial Championships. University High School from Tucson represented Arizona at this year’s National Championship-the 24th National Championship in which Arizona has participated.

Arizona’s High School Mock Trial Program enjoys a strong reputation at the national level.  In fact, Arizona was the first state to win two national championships. Xavier College Preparatory was the 1987 National Champion, and Deer Valley High School was the 1997 National Champion. In addition, Deer Valley High School was the National runner-up in 1993 and 1996. Since 2001, Arizona’s team has placed in the top 10 three times--including third, fourth and sixth place.

The National High School Mock Trial Championships began in 1984 with only five teams from the Midwest participating. Since the late 1990s, approximately 44 teams from around the United States, Guam and the Northern Mariana Island have participated in the National Championships each year. In 2006, South Korea participated in the National Championships for the first time.

The Foundation is looking for sponsors for this wonderful event.  If you are interested in sponsoring Mock Trial Nationals contact Lara Slifko at [email protected] or go online at https://www.azflse.org/azflse/get_involved/donatenow.cfm
