Description

Overview: Join us at the Arizona State Capital Senate Chambers for an afternoon of hands on learning provided by an experienced civics teacher and an Arizona Legislator. This training is designed to spark and invigorate a passion in your students  for the importance of active and informed citizenship. Through a variety of interactive teaching methods, participants will be able to help students understand the essential elements of representative democracy. This program introduces the students to their representatives, institutions and processes that serve to achieve the goal of a democratic society – of the people, for the people and by the people. Students who participate in this program gain a valuable understanding of the fundamental elements of the American political system and are, in turn, well prepared to be valuable and educated members of American civil society.
 
*Participants of this training will receive the RDA curriculum, educational materials from the Center on Congress and the National Council of State Legislators
 
Training Objectives: As a result of this training, participants will be able to…
  • Use interactive methods to teach students what Representative Democracy is, the history of our government and the role of a citizen in their government
  • Engage students in learning about their local government leaders
  • Explore interactive websites to use in the classroom
