Description

Overview:  Teachers will use Project Citizen to deepen their understanding of the Common Core State Standards and promote civic literacy for their students. Through the use of hands-on learning, participants will examine the portfolio-based program and how it will assist them in the classroom through specific connections to Common Core to standards and effective instruction.  Participants in this training will walk away with knowledge of the 6 Common Core Shifts for ELA and Literacy as well as a thorough understanding of the Project Citizen Program in order to increase Social Studies instruction and civic literacy in their classroom. 
 
Training Objectives:
  • Gain a more in depth understanding of what Public Policy is and how students can affect change in their communities
  • Explore the 6 Common Core Shifts for ELA and Literacy and how they can be addressed using Project Citizen
  • Use Project Citizen to make connections between effective instruction, evaluation frameworks and the inquiry process
